It’s a wonder that Warren Marx even finished “Happy Little Monkeys”. He fought increasing tinnitus and loss of hearing from beginning to end. This is why Quest Records is releasing the CD as a legacy project (the label’s mandate). The songs are Warren’s view of living in a world of challenges and dreams. An existence fraught with missteps, misinformation and missed opportunities, but like Happy Little Monkeys we merrily swing from tree to tree, day to day, finding love, losing it, distracted by sideshows and preachers as we climb “Life’s Long Ladder”. His music however, is not somber, and is in fact often quite whimsical and beautifully melodic and insightful. The love songs range from hopeful to pragmatic to “Cold As Stone” or wistfully romantic in “A Moment Every Night”. The more quirky and provocative songs are written with a clever tongue in cheek cynicism and accompanied by even quirkier self-produced videos. All in all, “Happy Little Monkeys” is a very entertaining collection of observations, experiences and commentary from a creative lyricist with a poignant perspective on navigating through the realities of modern times with eyes wide open and a soul still searching for love.
